General description of lakes.

Among the dunes of Adhane Ubari, 90 KM South Wset of Sabha, dozens of small lakes appear as if by magic.

It is a breathless moment when suddenly there is a glimpse of Lake Mandara, one of the many lakes that make up the Ramlat Daouda and Ramlat Zallaf, which shine like delicate jade cameos against the silken velvet dunes of the Adhane Ubari.
Immersed in this boundless expanse - where horizons are not immediately visible to the eye, because the sand seems liquid and the water is rock crystal suspended in space - these desert lakes possess the magic and infinite nuances of pure jade.

Crouched low in the lea of the dunes that provide shadowy respite from the sun's torrid rays, the lake waters are tinted with azure, red, green and white.
This extraordinary chromatic effect is caused both by the varying concentration of the Artemisia salina ( a small crustacean ) which for many centures was the staple food of a mysterious population - the Daouda - and the carbonates which vary according to the depth of the water some of these lakes are several meters deep and resist throughout the whole year, but others vanish during the dry season.
